Epsom salt is not just used for baths but it’s prescribed as a pill to put more magnesium sulfate directly into your body.

Epsom-salts

Do not use magnesium sulfate as a laxative without medical advice if you have:

  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • perforated bowels
  • severe constipation
  • colitis or toxic megacolon
  • a sudden change in  bowel movements lasting 2 weeks or longer.

Ask a doctor or pharmacist if it is safe for you to take this medicine if you have:

  • diabetes
  • kidney disease
  • an eating disorder (anorexia or bulimia)
  • using a laxative for longer than 1 week
  • low magnesium diet

If you do consume a magnesium sulfate pill and over dose, the side effects are as follows:

  • hives
  • difficulty breathing
  • swelling of your face, lips tongue or throat

Less serious side effects may include diarrhea or upset stomach.

Other than the consumption part of Epsom salts baths 3 times a week are very beneficial.
